Makeni Extols Africell’s CEO
Residents of Makeni have hailed Shadi Gerjawi, Chief Executive Officer of Africell Sierra Leone, as a “God-sent man” for his remarkable contributions to the city’s technological and infrastructural development.
Gerjawi, accompanied by Martison Obeng-Agyei, CEO of Afrimoney, and senior management from both Africell and Afrimoney, visited Makeni as part of the Afrimedia Tour 2025. The tour aimed to bring Africell’s services closer to the community, showcasing new innovations, connectivity solutions, and opportunities, while allowing residents to engage directly with company leadership.
In his address, Gerjawi stressed the importance of clear, constructive feedback from customers in Makeni and surrounding areas. He reaffirmed Africell’s commitment to improving service delivery, meeting customer expectations, and strengthening ties with the community.
Marking Africell’s 20th anniversary in Sierra Leone and 25 years in Africa, the company is running several promotions, including the Jubilee Jumbo Promo, offering lucky winners, including Makeni residents, the chance to win a fully furnished house at TAF Micro City.
A major highlight of the visit was Gerjawi’s pledge to renovate Makeni’s iconic clock tower, a historic city landmark. He also announced a large-scale fibre optic installation project, starting at the end of August, to boost network coverage and enhance service quality for both residents and businesses.
In addition, Africell is supporting the construction of a memorial cemetery to honour the people of Makeni, further demonstrating its long-term commitment to community development. Gerjawi noted that the Northern Region remains one of Africell’s strongest customer bases, and assured of continued investment in infrastructure and services.
Upcoming Technological Upgrades for Makeni:
Citywide Fibre Network: High-speed fibre optic rollout by the end of August for faster, more reliable connectivity.
Enhanced Connectivity: Upgraded network capabilities for superior internet and telecommunications services.
Afrimoney Expansion: Continued development of Afrimoney to improve access to financial services.
Customer-Driven Improvements: Ongoing engagement with residents to tailor services to local needs.
These initiatives form part of Africell’s strategy of merging cutting-edge technology with a customer-first approach, reinforcing its leadership in Sierra Leone’s telecommunications sector.
