ECOWAS President Jets In Freetown

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, reportedly arrived in Freetown on Wednesday January 10th 2024. He is said to be in Freetown to facilitate the temporal relocation of former President Ernest Bai Koroma to Nigeria.

In recent times, Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister, Timothy Kabba, confirmed receiving a letter written by the President of the ECOWAS Commission detailing arrangements to allow for the temporary relocation of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, who now faces treason charges.

Kabbah said that his government did not however countenance the content of the said letter, “because it is a unilateral proposition by the President of the ECOWAS Commission”.

Omar Alieu Touray is the President of the ECOWAS Commission. He was appointed by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government during the Sixty-First Ordinary Session of the Authority in Accra, Ghana, on July 03, 2022 to serve for a four-year term. Dr Touray is a Gambian diplomat and development professional.
