Dong Tai Mining Lights Up Rochen Kamandao with 20 Solar Streetlight

Dong Tai Stone Mining Company (SL) Ltd has installed 20 sets of solar-powered streetlights in the Rochen Kamandao community, located in the Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, Tonkolili District. Each solar set is valued at US$200, translating to a substantial investment in community development under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

According to Councillor Abdulai Sesay of Constituency 048, the solar electrification is part of a land lease agreement between Dong Tai Stone Mining and the Kamara Mankutta family—the landowners in Rochen Kamandao. Before the full installation, Dong Tai had already conducted a partial solar setup. Now, the mining company has completed a larger installation to fulfill its commitment to the community.

Councillor Sesay noted that the company even covered the welding costs associated with the installation process. He emphasized that the lights will greatly benefit the entire community, particularly school-going children, by providing lighting that supports effective nighttime study and improved academic performance.

Jack Yu, interpreter for Dong Tai Stone Mining Company, stated that the company operates as a quarry mining firm in Rochen Kamandao. He said the solar project aims to strengthen ties with local residents and improve living conditions by ensuring better lighting in key areas, including checkpoints and central community spaces.

The installation ceremony was attended by several key stakeholders, including a representative of the Paramount Chief, the Town Chief, the Youth Leader of Rochen Kamandao, and a delegate from Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, Member of Parliament for Tonkolili District. Speaker after speaker commended Dong Tai Mining for its generosity and commitment to community development.
