JFK Warns of Far-Reaching Political Consequences

Hon. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK) has issued a strong caution over the recently introduced Constitutional Bill, describing it as far more than a routine legal update, warning that its implications could fundamentally reshape Sierra Leone’s governance architecture.

In a statement shared on his official X handle, Mr. Kamara noted that the Bill represents a profound political maneuver with the potential to recalibrate the country’s political landscape in ways that disproportionately advantage the incumbent party.

According to JFK, the speed with which the Bill is being advanced raises serious concerns about transparency, public participation, and legitimacy. He argued that constitutional reform, by its very nature, demands broad consultation, sober reflection, and bipartisan consensus, not haste.

JFK further warned that altering the constitutional framework under the dominance of one political actor risks entrenching power rather than strengthening democracy. He called on Parliamentarians, civil society, the media, and citizens to critically interrogate both the content of the Bill and the process driving it forward.
