David Dainkeh Escapes Death At Hands Of Security Forces

Reports reaching this medium reveal that a popular youth leader of the main opposition party APC, David U. L. Dainkeh, residing at 8A Chief Dainkeh Street, Makeni, narrowly escaped death at the hands of ruling (SLPP) party youths and security forces, during an attack on his residence, around 7:am, in the northern city of makeni, Sierra Leone.
According to sources, Dainkeh has been targeted for his affiliation with the main opposition party APC. It was revealed that during the campaign period for the General Elections of 24th June 2023, Dainkeh was very instrumental in pushing his party’s bid for the Presidency, and was arrested and tortured on several occasions, on the instructions of the SLPP Resident Minister Northeast, Abu Abdulai Koroma, the latest being the detention at the Makeni police station for some ten days from 1st June to 30th September,2023 and only released to vote during the election with the help and intervention of one civil society activist.
Family sources say that after the announcement of the results of the election, in which incumbent President Bio was declared winner, amidst controversies, including condemnation from both international and local observer missions, ruling SLPP party youths in the company of security forces, stormed their residence at night, shouting threats against Dainkeh. This was corroborated by their neighbor, Mrs Isatu Kanu, who also confirmed seeing the security forces taking away David Dainkeh’s wife, Mariatu S. Dainkeh, returning her few days later.
Family members explained that David had to disguise as a woman to leave the house that night, via the back gate of the compound. They furthered that when the ruling party youths and the police entered the compound, they dealt with anyone they saw, inflicting injuries and pain on them. They told family members that they have now won the election and will teach David a lesson.
However, family members and residents in the area say that since that day, David Dainkeh has not been seen, with family members saying that his whereabouts are unknown. They furthered that they have been under constant harassment from ruling(SLPP) party youths, operating under the direction of the Resident Minister Northeast, and reports of this harassment to the police have proved futile.
As we go to press, there is still no information about the whereabouts of David Dainkeh.
