The Security Sector in Sierra Leone deserves to be celebrated rather than vilified. Too often, many Sierra Leoneans hold the perception that little progress has been made within this vital arm of the state. However, such a view overlooks the immense strides and sacrifices made by the institutions that make up the country’s Security Sector — namely, the Office of National Security (ONS), the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).

The ONS, in collaboration with the SLP and the Military, continues to play a pivotal role in preventing and addressing threats to national security, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens. Their coordinated efforts have helped to foster a safer environment, enabling development and democratic governance to thrive.

Under his leadership, these institutions have become more robust in addressing emerging security challenges — from crime prevention and disaster response to countering extremism and managing civil unrest.
