Many Sierra Leoneans believe that Homosexuality, and Bisexual is practiced by or through inducements from foreigners.
A number of Sierra Leoneans, even those with considerable exposure to Western cultures, said that Homosexuality does not exist locally, and any cases were due directly to Westerner influence. The few Sierra Leoneans who admitted knowing someone they believed is a Homosexual said that in no case would anyone openly admit it, and if they did, they would be shunned by their families, and friends and possibly threatened by community members and the law comes a penalty of life imprisonment of death.

On Friday 9th of April, 2021,
a youth in Sierra Leone identified as Daniel Yerah Marah has been declared wanted in Freetown in the capital city by the Sierra Leone Police force largely due to the fact that he has been identified as gay. Daniel Yerah Marah who is reportedly in his thirties has long been identified as a gay in Wilberforce capital city, Freetown.

The issue of being gay is a taboo in many cultures across Sierra Leone and there is no law that supports the practice even though people such as the aged and the youths in schools and colleges are secretly practicing gay.

Daniel Yerah Marah ran out of luck and according to reports, on the 4th of April, 2021 when together with his gay partner, they were chased away from a Guest House along the Aberdeen beach highway where they went to spend good time.
The attack on the two, according to our sources, was as a result of very long surveillance on Daniel Yerah Marah and most of his gay partners were monitored by local authorities of the area including an investigative journalist in the country who were all opposed to this practice as it is against their religious as well as traditional beliefs of residents in those communities.

The attack on the two gay suspects left Daniel Yerah Marah badly wounded even though he later managed to escape from the mob. His accomplice was also badly beaten to the point that he died before the local police could come to his rescue.
The whole wilberfore community went haywire and there was a desperate search for Marah’s who was also going to be killed or sent to jail for life imprisonment ever he was discovered. Sources maintained that Daniel Yerah Marah family became very furious and had wanted him dead when they discovered about such ugly act by thier son.

Daniel Yerah Marah mother Mrs. Yearie Marah had contrary view during that difficult moment, as such facilitated her son’s escape, because she did not wanting to see him lynched to death through mob justice. The whereabouts of Marah’s not known but there are indications that he could have fled out of the country.
Quite recently we also learnt that, in the same community two youths were also caught in the same gay acts and this called for fresh attacks on Marah’s mother. The old woman has been placed under severe trauma, as she stands accused of letting her son escape to an unknown location.
The Wilberforce community had stated that Daniel Yerah Marah left a very bad precedent for the youths in that community. They have rained fresh abuses and insults on Marah’s mother Yearie Marah attacking her by the day and hour.
They want Daniel Yerah Marah mother Yearie Marah to produce him dead or alive as a way to avenge the death of their son. The Wilberforce community people including the religious Muslim and Christian sects are also angry that Marah’s breached their customs and traditions.
He is a wanted man here in Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone and any attempt to return home will be met by very strong reactions that would tantamount to death or life imprisonment.
