ANAN and Sierra Leone High Commission discuss to establish a branch of Accountancy University in Sierra Leone.
The President of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Professor Mohammad Akaro Mainoma, and entourage has had fruitful discussions on the extension and opening of a branch of the Nigerian University of Accountancy in Sierra Leone.
This was disclosed during a courtesy call by the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria’s (ANNA) President and other notable members of the association to the Sierra Leone High Commissioner, Dr. Solomon Gembeh SR, at the Sierra Leone High Commission in Abuja on Wednesday 24th February, 2021.
In his speech, the President of ANAN, Professor Mohammad Akaro Mainoma, stated that their visit was to formally propose an extension of the Nigerian University of Accountancy to Sierra Leone, a plan he said was disrupted in 2020 by the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.
He said their visit was to showcase programmes offered, achievements and their determination to open a branch in Sierra Leone.
He stated that they are affiliated with other accountancy universities in Africa and the Pan African Accountants with forty thousand membership and eight branches across Africa.
The ANAN President Mohammad Akaro Mainoma said that they have the gusto and determination to work with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Higher Education and other relevant stakeholders in the education sector, if the planned project becomes feasible.
The High Commissioner, Dr. Solomon Gembeh, welcomed the delegation from ANAN and assured them of strong willingness and aspiration for collaboration, especially in the area of education, which is top on the development aspirations of President Julius Maada Bio and the New Direction Administration.
He said that education is key to human capital development and is close to the heart of President Bio, which is the reason for the allocation of huge budget to ensure quality and effective service delivery is done in that sector.
High Commissioner Gembeh assured ANAN Executive that President Dr Julius Maada Bio would embrace the establishment of a branch of the University of Accountancy in Sierra Leone, as it will complement his efforts to rebrand and add value to the education sector.
The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria is the only chartered professional accountancy body in Nigeria, empowered by law to teach as well as examine all its students. Besides, it is the only body having the absolute power to advance the science of accountancy.
The former Nigeria High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Dr. Habiss Ibrahim Ugbada, was also part of the visiting delegation and was highly praised for standing tall to be among those that initiated the idea to extend a branch of the Nigeria University of Accountancy to Sierra Leone.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy High Commissioner, Ms. Anna Moussa, Counselor/Head of Chancery, Mr. Mohamed Sorie Conteh and other diplomatic staff.
Part of the visiting delegation were the Chief Operating Officer, Rt. Hon. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, Miss Uche Arinze, Manager Corporate Affairs, the Special Assistant to the President, Mr. Abdullai Saliliu, Mr. Aliu Mohammed the Special Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer, Protocol Officer, Mr. Adeyinke Sanyaolu and Haja Mrs. Fatima Mohamed Habiss.
