Alfred Bangura, a resident of Freetown, has been pronounced missing by family members in the aftermath of the August 10th popular demonstration in the Sierra Leone Capital in 2022.
Led mostly by youth and other ordinary Sierra Leoneans protesting the high cost of living and general hardship in the country, the protest of August 10th, 2022, has experienced a serious crackdown by the Government of Sierra Leone on all those involved or accused of being involved.
According to a close, officials believe Alfred was sighted in the demonstrations, and a sister of his is reported to have sustained bullet wounds in the leg after a group of people attacked the area he was living.
The angry pro-government supporters are reported to have searched for Alfred seeking to catch him dead or alive as he was deemed to be one of the masterminds. According to a relative, Alfred has not been seen ever since that incident in the area he was living.
On the advice of his elder brother, Alfred left the Sierra Leone worried that he would be arrested by the authorities or targeted for lynching by pro-government supporters.
Even after the events of August 10th, the authorities still continue to search for all those deemed to be key players in the protest and the Government had declared all those involved in the protest as “terrorists.”
Unconfirmed report states that Alfred Bangura might be in a foreign country in fear for his dear life while others believe he is languishing in a prison somewhere around the country.
