Freetown, September 25, 2025. African Global Logistics (AGL) has marked the 2nd edition of its annual Solidarity Day at Queen Elizabeth II Quay, Cline Town, Freetown, under the theme “Health is Wealth.”
The event brought together AGL staff from across Sierra Leone, along with management and community representatives, in a celebration aimed at promoting unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Speaking at the ceremony, Captain Fabjanko Kokan, AGL’s Sub-Regional Manager for Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, said the celebration reflects the company’s belief in solidarity as a driving force for development.
“The world today is more divided than ever, and we need solidarity, understanding, and tolerance,” he said. “Solidarity is not just a word; it means nothing without action. That is why we start from within—building solidarity in our company. Once we achieve that, we can extend it to our neighbors, our communities, our country, and beyond.”
Kokan added that this year’s focus on health includes donations to improve medical care in surrounding communities. “You can build roads, ports, and buy equipment, but without people to operate them, they mean nothing. Our philosophy is to focus on development, solidarity, and people,” he noted.
General Manager Mr. Maroun Abradad, in his keynote address, stressed the link between health, safety, and sustainable growth. “Health is not only a personal matter; it is a collective responsibility. We cannot speak of development or productivity if we do not first ensure the well-being of the people,” he said.
He added that AGL is supporting a local healthcare centre to enhance access to medical care, describing the initiative as a step toward strengthening the company’s role as a responsible partner in the community.
HR Manager Yvonne Elliot highlighted the importance of Solidarity Day for staff. “It gives us the opportunity for all levels of management and staff to come together and mingle. For this year, we are celebrating health with the slogan ‘Health is Wealth,’” she explained.
She said activities included gym demonstrations, music, competitions such as musical chairs, and staff wellness exercises. Beyond the celebrations, AGL will also donate essential tools and equipment to local hospitals.
The programme concluded with group activities, including tug of peace, dancing, and weightlifting, before participants collectively read a Solidarity Commitment Statement pledging unity, teamwork, and mutual respect.
“Through solidarity we strengthen our workplace, our community, and our shared future. Together we are stronger,” the statement declared.
AGL reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration, community empowerment, and positive change through its logistics and supply chain operations.
