VP Jalloh Assures Of Govt’s Commitment To Healthcare
Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has reiterated the Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare system, citing significant progress in maternal and infant mortality reduction, expansion of the healthcare workforce and substantial investments in health infrastructure.
Addressing the 47th Annual General and Scientific Meeting of the Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) in Freetown on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh emphasized that the Government remains focused on improving health outcomes and ensuring a resilient health sector for future challenges.
“We have made significant strides in improving healthcare delivery, from increasing the number of healthcare workers to investing in critical infrastructure that continues to transform health services across the country,” he stated.
The Vice President stated how the Government has spent over one billion New Leones in the healthcare sector this year. He reiterated key achievements, including a significant reduction in maternal and infant mortality rates and the recruitment of additional healthcare personnel to enhance service delivery nationwide, further emphasizing that those advancements reflect the Government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and quality.
He additionally called for strengthened collaboration between the Government and the SLMDA to build on the successes and enhance preparedness for emerging healthcare challenges.
“A well-prepared and resilient health workforce is crucial for sustaining these gains and tackling emerging health issues,” he noted. “It is through partnerships like this that we can ensure long-term improvements in the healthcare sector.”
The annual SLMDA conference serves as a crucial platform for medical professionals to discuss advancements, share research findings and shape policy directions in the country’s health sector. Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh commended the Association for its role in fostering medical excellence and innovation.
In his closing remarks, the Vice President reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to prioritizing healthcare under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio. He underscored that a strong and efficient health system is integral to Sierra Leone’s broader development agenda.
“As we continue to make strides in healthcare workforce development and infrastructure expansion, our goal remains clear; to provide quality healthcare services that meet the needs of every citizen,” he concluded.
The Vice President’s address reassured the nation that healthcare remains a top priority for the Government, with continued investments aimed at improving the well-being of Sierra Leoneans.
