Report reaching this newspaper is that Musa Kamara, an alleged August 10 protest planner’s life and family are in danger.
According to community sources, it could be recalled that after the incident of the famous 2022 August 10 protest that claimed the lives of dozens of Sierra Leoneans including police officers, irate youths believed to have belong to be ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and family members of those killed during that protest, on the 16 May 2023 again allegedly attacked the resident of Musa for the second time, beaten his wife, family members and destroyed property worth millions of Leones.
Community sources say as luck would continue have it, Musa was still away from the country when his home was violently attacked by these angry groups of people.
Underground murmurs however, confirmed that Musa Kamara was one of the planners of the peaceful protest that was ignited to draw the attention of the authorities to the economic hardship, gross human rights violation, and a perceived failure by the government to cushion the impact of rising prices amid the untold hardship the people contend with under the Maada Bio-led government.
Sources at Musa’s residence that begged not to be named for fear of dear lives indicated that when these groups of people stormed the compound for the second time in May, darted the way to their room in search of him and his wife. Upon realizing that Musa was still not in the house, the dissatisfied family members and SLPP irate youths reportedly turned their search into every nook and cranny of the compound, while in the process, got hold of his wife, beat her up mercilessly.
Property worth millions of leones were reportedly destroyed and carted away by the assailants who reportedly vowed to burn down the house if Musa failed to surrender himself.
People residing in east Freetown, marched briefly before police started firing teargas and said they later saw demonstrators getting shot at from their porch.
Sierra Leone authorities, including the office of National Security (ONS) Sierra Leone Police and local chiefs have said the circumstances surrounding the attack on Musa’s residence would be “fully investigated”.
Meanwhile, as of the time of going to press last night, the whereabouts of Musa Kamara and family members are still unknown.
