By Dr Doma

In Sierra Leone, a young man by the name of Mohamed Fofana faced a tragic twist of fate.
His father, a respected member of the Poro Society, passed away, thrusting the son into a dangerous path.

Tradition demanded his initiation into manhood, but this celebration turned into a nightmare.

Caught in the grip of tradition, Mohamed Fofana endured a brutal beating from the Poro custodians.
Left helpless in the bush, his only savior was a compassionate hunter who defied societal norms to offer aid. Realizing the danger, the hunter advised the young man to escape, providing him with money for the journey.

After securing freedom with the help of the hunter, Mohamed Fofana sought refuge at the village police station, where he detailed his harrowing experiences. Surprisingly, the police officers, who were secretly affiliated with the Poro Society, reassured him of his safety.
Upon overhearing a clandestine conversation, Mohamed Fofana, sensing a threat, slipped out of the station through the back door, adding a new layer of complexity to his tumultuous journey.

Under the cover of night, he fled the village, pursued relentlessly by the Poro Society.

Through Liberia, he struggled, taking odd jobs to survive.
The society’s relentless search led him through Ghana, where his uncle helped him reach the USA.

Now in the U.S., Mohamed Fofana carries emotional scars, haunted by a tradition turned malevolent.
His story is not just his own; it’s a plea that echoes back to Sierra Leone, a prayer that no one else should endure the darkness he faced on his journey.
Mohamed Fofana experienced these incidents between March 2020 and until when finally arrived his Canaan land (United States Of America) In August 2021.
