On Thursday, January 16, 2025, Aminata & Son SL Limited unveiled its latest achievement with the grand opening of a state-of-the-art gas station at 104 Azzolini Highway, Matinka Junction, marking a significant milestone in the company’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality fuel and energy services across Sierra Leone.
Developed in partnership with Ralim SL Limited, this new facility reflects Aminata & Son’s commitment to excellence, sustainability, and community empowerment.
The grand opening attracted prominent figures, including the Paramount Chief of Makeni, former Mayor, Moses Sesay, representatives of the bike riders’ union, and other community leaders. The ceremony celebrated progress and unity, symbolizing the positive impact of Aminata & Son’s operations on the Northern Province, particularly in fostering economic growth and development.
Speaking at the event, the Paramount Chief, PC Bai Makarie N’kolo 11, expressed gratitude for the company’s dedication to community development. He emphasized the gas station’s role in revitalizing the local economy, creating jobs, supporting businesses, and improving transportation. “This investment is not just a business venture; it’s a blessing for Makeni,” he said. “Aminata & Son, in collaboration with Ralim SL limited exemplifies how partnerships can transform communities.”
Former Mayor Moses Sesay, praised the initiative’s contribution to Makeni’s infrastructure, highlighting its ability to address the region’s energy challenges. “For far too long, Makeni has struggled with unreliable energy services,” Sesay remarked. “This gas station ensures a steady supply of high-quality fuel, and positions our city as a hub for progress and innovation. Aminata & Son and Ralim Petroleum deserve high commendation for this impactful project.”
Anita Thomas, Sales and Marketing Manager of Aminata & Son, delivered a heartfelt keynote address, reflecting on the company’s journey from its founding in Liberia over 40 years ago, to becoming a leader in the regional energy sector. She shared the company’s origins, explaining that the name “Aminata” was chosen to honor the founders’ mother, symbolizing a commitment to family values and community service.
“This company is built on integrity, hard work, and a dedication to serving people,” Thomas said. “Our partnership with Ralim Petroleum is a testament to our shared vision of bringing not just fuel, but hope, opportunity, and sustainable growth to every community we serve.”
Thomas also emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, noting the availability of environmentally friendly products such as 10 PPM European-standard diesel, designed to meet global environmental standards. “At Aminata & Son, we’re not just selling fuel; we’re cultivating opportunities and improving lives across Sierra Leone,” she added.
The local bike riders’ union, a key part of Makeni’s transportation network, expressed their excitement over the new facility. Mohamed Bangura, Union President, highlighted how the gas station would address the persistent fuel shortages that riders have faced, particularly during busy periods. “This gas station is a game changer for us,” Bangura said. “It ensures a steady supply of high-quality fuel, making our work more efficient and reliable.”
The collaboration between Aminata & Son and Ralim SL limited has been instrumental in realizing this project. Their partnership has created job opportunities for local residents, ranging from pump attendants and maintenance staff to roles in the convenience store attached to the facility.
The ceremony concluded with blessings from the Paramount Chief and a demonstration of the modern fuel pumps. Former Mayor Sesay hailed the project as a shining example of private-sector contribution to national development. Anita Thomas reaffirmed Aminata & Son’s dedication to serving Sierra Leone’s communities with integrity and commitment, promising to continue driving progress and improving lives.
