Investigation monitored by this medium indicates that His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, is contemplating on replacing the Minister of Finance (MOF), Mohamed Fantamadi Bangura, due to his dismal performances over the past years. It was rumored that Dr. Patricia Laverley, the erstwhile, Duputy Minister of Finance I, who performed extremely well during her tenure, would be appointed by President Bio to serve as the next Finance Minister. It was also reported that, under the stewardship of Mohamed Fantamadi Bangure, Sierra Leone’s economy is in shambles, coupled with the escaliting costs of goods and services at the detriment of the vast majority of the populace. Similarly, it was alleged that, Mohamed Fantamadi Bangura has failed woefully to attract and encourage investors, due to the burden of taxation. Recently, importers across the country lashed heavily on the Minister of Finance for failling to investigate Shipping Agencies, which are in the habit of flouting the 2024 Finance Act. This medium also learned that the escalating costs and period for demorage is impeding the business sector gravely. According to report, the current Minister of Finance has failed to stabilize the country’s economy, due to the flocutating rates of the United States dollar. This situation is now responsible for the escalating costs of goods and services on a regular basis. Most of the people interviewed by this medium opined that Dr. Patricia Laverley has the wherewithal to move Sierra Leone’s economy to the apex if given the opportunity to serve as Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance.It could be recalled that Dr. Laverley has a wealth of exprience in Financial Management nationally and internationally.
