Director Of Studies Recounts Successes Of College Of Tourism

Making an insight on the successes and challenges facing management story of the College of Tourism and Travel Studies, Director of Studies, Christian Macauley, spoke about the 44 students that graduated from various departments on 21st April, 2024.

Director Macauley was updating journalists about the attractive and big graduation ceremony, which was held on Wednesday 15th May this year at the institution’s conference room on Walpole Street in central Freetown.

He stated that the college is comprised of three departments, including the Air Travel Management, which is the biggest sector, with 35 students graduating last month, Hospitality Management, Business and Administration Management.

He spoke meaningfully on the pivotal role the Tourism Industry is playing in terms of empowering the middle level man power with the required training and necessary skills.

He deliberated on the essential services that graduates from the college are rendering to travellers at different airlines and travel agencies, where they are attached as employees.

Director Macauley furthered that the College of Tourism and Travel Studies was established in Sierra Leone immediately after the war (between 2000 to 2001) with lots of financial challenges in running the institution.

As an airline expert, Christian Macauley said they thought it necessary and timely to establish the college, which has now produced lots of specialists that are presently working with credible and reputable airlines.

Director Macauley highlighted that the college is a private owned learning institution and does not receive subsidies from government, and therefore appealed to the government to come to their aid and enable them to continue training and recruiting more graduates for the general good of all.

He spoke about their good working relationship with Fourah Bay College (FBC) and other tertiary institutions. He maintained that for an applicant to be admitted into the college, he must have a diploma certificate in education or at least a clean WASSCE results, backed up with other important documents.

Mr. Christian Macauley made it very clear that the college is always open to accept both local and international applicants with ease.

Coming to conclusions, learned Director Patrick intimated this press that they are working closely with the Ministry of Basic Education, noting that the education ministry was the first to give them accreditation to start operation.

He pledged love, loyalty and unflinching support to the Government of Sierra Leone for creating the enabling environment.
