Police Declares Osman Bah Wanted
Reports from the east end of Freetown, revealed that police have declared Osman Bah, wanted, a young man living at 8 Ansley Street, Fourah Bay, the son of a devout Islamic Cleric in the community, Mamadu Bah, over allegations of same sex activity with an underage boy, as well as engaging in an illegal act in Sierra Leone.
According to sources, Osman Bah was caught red-handed having sex in his room with an underage boy, their uncle’s son, living in the same house. It was disclosed that Osman Bah’s father, Mamadu Bah, who caught them, was shocked and raised an alarm, leading to both neighbors and residents in the area, rushing to the house. Shocked by the discovery, Osman Bah’s father is said to have had a heart attack, and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he died shortly after.
Our source furthered that in the ensuing confusion to resuscitate and convey the father to the hospital, Osman Bah managed to escape, pursued by angry youths, who saw his act as demonic and should not be encouraged in the community. Any gay suspect caught is either beaten to death or taken to alleged traditional healers to exorcize the demon, and these suspects invariably do not return, apparently eliminated.
Family members further revealed that Osman was caught by his father, Mamadu Bah, a devout Islamic Cleric, who had simply returned from an important religious meeting on 19th September 2018, to collect some money that he had kept to be presented to the Jamaat at the mosque. On arrival, he is said to have heard moaning sounds coming from his son’s room, and went to enquire about the reason for the moaning sound. On entering the room, he caught his son, Osman Bah, stark naked, having sex with his nephew (his brother’s son), who was living with them. Overwhelmed with shock and anger, he is said to have raised an alarm and suddenly collapsed.
Neighbors and youths in the area ran into the house and grabbed both youths, but their attention was diverted by the falling to the ground of Osman’s father. Family members and neighbors fought to resuscitate him, to no avail, and had to rush him to the hospital at the Harbor area, since that was the closest medical facility to the community, but that he died shortly after.
Family members explained that Osman’s father is a devout Muslim and a popular cleric in the community mosque, and commands huge respect, and such an act, a taboo, and described by both religious faiths as demonic and satanic, is not tolerated in society, and suspects caught in the act are often beaten to death, with the police turning a blind eye if the suspect died when caught, and only make arrests when the suspects manage to escape and information of their whereabouts are disclosed. Gay practice is illegal in Sierra Leone, and is frowned on by both religious faiths in the country. Gay suspects in the provinces are often passed off, through the pretext of traditional treatment against demon possession, whilst the laws of the country imprisons convicted practitioners with long jail terms.
However, family members say that since the escape of Osman Bah from the house on that fateful day, his whereabouts are unknown, and the police have got wind of this unholy and illegal act and have mounted a man-hunt for him, with a bounty on his head for info that would lead to his arrest. They maintained that angry youths in the community have raided their house in search of Osman Bah, and have threatened to kill him whenever seen.
