Kolenten Junior Secondary School was reportedly engulfed by fire late Saturday evening, raising fresh concerns about emergency preparedness and the availability of effective firefighting services in Kambia.
Government allocation to the Fire Force appears, at least from what is visible on the ground, to have stopped at the purported door-to-door sensitization exercise.
Meanwhile, the Fire Force office in the district has reportedly been reduced to what now resembles a dwelling house, raising serious questions about whether it remains functional as an emergency response facility.
So, when a fire outbreak occurs, how can members of the community quickly contact the Fire Force and access emergency assistance?
That is a one-million-dollar question for the National Fire Force (NFF).
If government continues to allocate public funds to Fire Force operations in districts where basic operational presence, accessibility and emergency response capacity remain questionable, taxpayers deserve clear answers about how those resources are being utilized.
Public funds must serve the public.
