BUMBUNA, Sierra Leone, 31 July 2018— Foday Dabor, a former employee of African Minerals Limited (AML), is reportedly facing serious threats to his life following allegations and growing hostility from some community members in Bumbuna. Dabor, who previously served as chairman of the labour workforce at African Minerals Limited, has allegedly become the target of some members of the community and a cross-section of AML staff, who accuse him of joining a secret society, being connected to the death of his former deputy, and giving testimony that they believe was in favour of African Minerals Limited.
The allegations have reportedly generated significant resentment against Dabor among some members of the community, particularly over his role as a labour representative and his involvement in matters connected to the mining company. According to anonymous sources familiar with the situation, some community members have allegedly been searching for Dabor with the intention of inflicting serious bodily harm on him, amid claims that they want to punish him over the allegations levelled against him.
The situation has reportedly caused concern among Dabor’s family members, as his wife and children were attacked in Bumbuna in July 2018, and his daughter sustained severe burns from hot water thrown by one of the attackers.
The wife and children managed to escape with the help of some kind neighbours and moved to Lungi to settle down, where they also faced another attack. The wife and children have sought refuge outside the country.
The allegations against Dabor, including claims concerning his alleged involvement with a secret society, his testimony in favour of African Minerals Limited, and the death of his deputy, are matters of serious concern that have led to people searching for him nationwide. According to a concerned member of the community who preferred anonymity, the police have issued a warrant of arrest for Foday Dabor, and his family members are reportedly concerned that the growing hostility could result in Dabor being attacked and killed.
The situation has highlighted the potentially dangerous consequences of unresolved community grievances, particularly where allegations of wrongdoing, employment disputes, and mining-related tensions intersect. With the matter now reportedly brought to the attention of the police and other relevant authorities by the aggrieved parties, there are calls for Foday Dabor to come out of hiding. Dabor’s current whereabouts were not immediately confirmed, and he was not available for comment at the time of publication.
