Key stakeholders implementing the European Union-funded Spotlight Initiative in Sierra Leone have concluded a two-day Communications and Advocacy Harmonisation Workshop aimed at strengthening public messaging and advocacy efforts to address violence against women and girls (VAWG) and harmful practices.
The workshop brought together implementing partners from across the programme to develop a coordinated communication approach, align key messages, improve advocacy materials, and reinforce a collective commitment towards promoting the rights, safety, and protection of women and girls in Sierra Leone.
Participants engaged in discussions focused on enhancing collaboration, sharing experiences, and developing effective communication strategies that can drive awareness and encourage action against gender-based violence and harmful practices.
The Spotlight Initiative, funded by the European Union in Sierra Leone, is being implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Women (UN Women), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in partnership with the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA) and Rainbo Initiative.
The workshop provided a platform for partners to strengthen coordination and build a unified voice in advocating for policies and interventions that protect women and girls from violence and discrimination.
Organisers noted that the engagement reflects the shared commitment of government institutions, development partners, and civil society organisations to accelerate efforts towards ending violence against women and girls in Sierra Leone.
The event brought together communications specialists, advocacy teams, and programme representatives who contributed their expertise towards improving public engagement and ensuring that messages around gender equality and protection remain clear, consistent, and impactful.
Through initiatives such as the Spotlight Initiative, stakeholders continue to work collaboratively to promote a safer and more inclusive society where women and girls can fully enjoy their rights and live free from violence.
