A legal notice has been issued to the general public cautioning individuals and institutions against engaging in any transaction involving a disputed property currently before the Court of Appeal of Sierra Leone.
The notice, issued by Davies & Dainkeh Law Firm on behalf of Applicant/Appellant Wordsworth Filo-Jones, states that the property covered by a Deed of Assignment dated 30th January 1985, registered as No. 87 in Volume 74 at Page 128 in the Records Books of the Administrator and Registrar-General, is the subject of ongoing litigation.
According to the notice, the matter is pending before the Court of Appeal of Sierra Leone under Civil Appeal No. CIV.:APP/62/2026 between Wordsworth Filo-Jones as Applicant/Appellant and Alusine Dumbuya, also known as Hotobah-During, and seven others as Respondents.
The legal representatives disclosed that the Applicant/Appellant has filed a Motion for Stay of Execution against an order issued by the High Court of Sierra Leone presided over by Honourable Mr. Justice Adrian Fisher J. on 23rd July 2026.
The motion, according to the notice, is seeking to suspend the execution of the High Court order pending the hearing and final determination of the appeal currently before the Court of Appeal.
The public notice warned that any individual, organisation or entity that purchases, transfers, disposes of, alienates, or otherwise deals with the said property does so at their own risk.
It further stated that any transaction involving the property would remain subject to the authority and final decision of both the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Sierra Leone.
The notice also urged persons seeking to conduct business relating to the property through the Office of the Administrator and Registrar-General or the Directorate of Surveys and Lands to take note that the matter remains sub judice and has not yet been conclusively determined by the courts.
“Any person who approaches the Office of the Administrator and Registrar-General or the Director of Surveys and Lands to register, survey, or transact any business concerning the said property should be informed that the property is sub judice and the matter has not been finally concluded,” the notice stated.
The notice was dated 24th August 2026 and published by order of the Applicant/Appellant through Davies & Dainkeh Law Firm, Solicitors for Wordsworth Filo-Jones, with offices at 33 Bathurst Street, Freetown.
The caution serves as a reminder to members of the public to exercise due diligence when engaging in property transactions, particularly where ownership disputes or ongoing court proceedings are involved.
