Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) has launched the Second Pilot Phase of the Building Foundational Learning through Technology Project in Pujehun District.
The project which catered for seven thousand early learners in fifteen schools, is geared towards the introduction of Digital Technology in schools.
The Building Foundational Learning through Technology Project targets 7,000 early learners in 52 schools from classes 1 to 3 in both Pujehun and Kailahun Districts.
Eight hundred customised tablets, headsets and solar panels were distributed in thirty-two schools in Pujehun District alone.
During the launch at the Every Nation Primary school in Pujehun town, Chief Administrator Pujehun District Council, Sahr Emmanuel Yambasu, lauded the initiative in building the future of the learners and promoting the government’s ambition for the development of technology in the country.
He commended VSO for preparing early learners on technology for the future, and called on parents and teachers to own the initiative and make effective use of the project.
Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Voluntary Service Overseas, Abubakarr Senessie, said the introduction of these technology items in schools was meant to assess the methodology that would produce the best learning outcome among early learners. He disclosed that out of the thirty-two schools under review, twenty-four schools were provided with digital technology items.
Education Technology Officer, Voluntary Service Overseas Mr Emmanuel Fallah Focko, revealed that the project started in Malawi, and that Sierra Leone was the first country in West Africa to benefit from the project. He said that the tablets were designed in line with the curriculum of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education.
Beneficiaries thanked VSO for making it possible for such a project to reach their pupils. They appealed to government, VSO and other partners to provide better sanitary facilities for the children. They expressed appreciation about the training provided for teachers on the use of the gadgets.
