- SLPP Leading Flagbearer Aspirant Calls For “Peaceful Politiking” as 2028 Race Heats Up

Leading Sierra Leone People’s Party, SLPP, Standard Bearer aspirant Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally has appealed to party members both at home and in the diaspora to put unity above rivalry as the contest for the party’s 2028 flagbearer intensifies.
Speaking from abroad where he is currently on vacation, Hon. Tarawally urged SLPPians to embark on “peaceful politiking” as aspirants criss-cross the country to engage the grassroots.
“Unity is non-negotiable if we want to move Sierra Leone forward,” he said in a message shared with Party supporters.
“We must lead with love, tolerance, and respect for one another, even as we compete for leadership.”_
CALL FOR DECENCY AS USUAL IN CAMPAIGNS
Hon. Tarawally said the SLPP’s strength has always been its ability to stay together through internal contests. He called on aspirants, supporters, and party structures to avoid insults, tribalism and regional politics, and instead focus on ideas and service to the people.
Party sources say his message is resonating with youth and women who are seeking more opportunities for employment, social inclusion, and grassroots development.
TRACK RECORD and MOMENTUM
The appeal comes as momentum builds around Hon. Tarawally’s bid. In recent months he has received a red-carpet welcome in Lokomasama, Kenema and Bo, where traditional leaders, youth groups and women’s organizations pledged support.
During those tours he announced a plan to invest Old Leones 500 million / 1 billion to support women and youth cooperatives in every district of Sierra Leone, and revealed that he had previously provided several million if not billion old leones in micro-credit to women’s groups nationwide.
Last month, members of the National Constituency Secretaries, NaCoS, also endorsed him, citing his “long-standing service to the SLPP, leadership experience and contributions to national governance”. They pledged to mobilize support across the 132 constituencies across the country as preparations for the internal flagbearer process continue.
“IDEAS, NOT INTIMIDATION”
Hon. Tarawally reiterated that the SLPP must remain a party “of ideas, not intimidation; of ballots, not bullets.” He urged traditional authorities and community leaders to prioritize collective progress over personal interests.
Political observers say endorsements from grassroots structures are expected to play a major role in shaping the SLPP’s flagbearer contest ahead of the 2028 General Elections.
As the Party begins wide consultations, Hon. Tarawally’s message of unity, love and tolerance is being positioned as a central theme of his campaign — one he says is needed to keep the SLPP stronger, citing:
- 1992 at the Makeni Hall.
- 1995 in Freetown at the Bintumani Conference Center,
- 2002 in Bo, Towama,
- 2005 at the Makeni Town Hall,
- 2009 at the Trinity Hall in Kenema,
- 2011 at the Miatta Conference Center in Freetown etc, etc,
to keep the SLPP afloat and Sierra Leone moving forward.
