It is rife within the corridors of Sierra Leone’s Parliament that the SLPP intends to ram through the constitutional amendment bill currently under debate on the floor, using nothing than a bare simple majority, and such an act is treasonable.
Let this be unequivocally stated: the Constitution of Sierra Leone cannot be altered by a mere simple majority. The law demands ratification by a clear two-thirds of all Members of Parliament, not merely those present in the chamber. Any attempt to subvert this threshold is an unconstitutional assault on the founding compact of our nation and an affront to the sovereign people.
We serve notice, in the strongest possible terms: the APC will not treat lightly any machination that threatens to drag our democracy into the abyss. We are not oblivious, nor are we passive. We are vigilant, and we are resolute.
We are here. We will remain to the very end.
Let it be known: any bid to amend the Constitution through barbaric, kakistocratic, and despicable means will be met with unyielding resistance from the APC, standing firmly in defence of the people of Sierra Leone.
