The leadership of Sierra Leone’s security sector has strongly cautioned against the spread of false information and misinformation relating to national security, emphasizing that such actions have the potential to create unnecessary fear, undermine public confidence, and threaten national peace and stability.

The Office of National Security (NSCORD), the Inspector General of Police (IG), and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) have reassured the public that Sierra Leone’s security sector remains fully operational, coordinated, and committed to protecting the lives and property of every citizen across the country.
They stressed that the Government of President Julius Maada Bio continues to prioritize national security and has full confidence in the country’s security institutions to maintain law and order, preserve peace, and safeguard the nation’s democratic values.
The security leadership urged all Sierra Leoneans to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and avoid sharing or believing unverified information circulating on social media and other platforms. Citizens were encouraged to rely on official sources for accurate information concerning national security.
The ONS Boss further advised individuals and groups involved in deliberately spreading false or misleading security information to immediately desist from such activities. It warned that anyone found violating the law by intentionally publishing or circulating misinformation that threatens public order or national security could face legal consequences in accordance with the laws of Sierra Leone.
The security sector reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, unity, freedom, and stability throughout the country. It also called on all citizens to work together in promoting responsible communication and national cohesion, emphasizing that peace and security remain a shared responsibility.
The leadership concluded by assuring the nation that the NSCORD the Sierra Leone Police, and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces remain vigilant, united, and fully in control of the country’s security situation.
