Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Hon. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, met with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva.

During the meeting, Minister Swaray thanked the ILO for the invitation to the conference and congratulated the Director-General and delegates on the adoption of the Convention on Decent Work in the Platform Economy and the Transformative Agenda for Gender Equality at Work, describing them as major milestones for workers’ rights and inclusive workplaces.

The Minister also informed the Director-General about the successful hosting of the Second National Labour Conference and Social Dialogue Forum in Freetown, which brought together government, employers, workers, and other stakeholders to discuss key labour and employment issues.

Discussions highlighted Sierra Leone’s progress in ratifying ILO conventions, reviewing labour laws, and promoting decent work, social dialogue, and tripartism. Minister Swaray also conveyed his best wishes to Mr. Houngbo regarding his bid for re-election as ILO Director-General.

As part of efforts to deepen cooperation, the Minister requested ILO support for a national Labour Force Survey and technical assistance to institutionalize the National Labour Conference and Social Dialogue Forum as a permanent platform for engagement among social partners in Sierra Leone.
