The Build Africa Foundation (BAF) has officially launched its Self-Reliance Project, a transformative initiative aimed at empowering women through practical skills training and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The event brought together development partners, community leaders, and beneficiaries to witness the unveiling of a program designed to move women from dependency to economic independence. The ceremony opened with remarks by Amado Jah, Chairman of BAF, who emphasized the foundation’s commitment to grassroots development and inclusive growth.

Delivering the official statement, Noel C. G. Newman, Founder of Build Africa Foundation, highlighted the vision behind the Self-Reliance Project, noting that true development begins when people—especially women—are given the tools to shape their own futures.

Further statements were delivered by a representative of the Kekeh Riders Union, who applauded the initiative for breaking gender barriers within the transport and informal economic sector by supporting women to actively participate.

The keynote address was delivered by a representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who commended BAF for aligning the project with global development goals, particularly women’s empowerment, skills development, and economic resilience.

The highpoint of the event was the official launch of the Self-Reliance Project itself. The program focuses on training women both in classroom settings and through hands-on field experience. As part of the practical empowerment component, Kekeh (tricycles) were presented to selected women beneficiaries, enabling them to earn a living and support their families with dignity.

The event concluded on a high note with remarks from Melody George Buannie, who praised the initiative as timely, impactful, and life-changing for women striving to become self-sufficient in today’s challenging economic climate.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the Self-Reliance Project will not only improve household incomes but also inspire confidence, leadership, and long-term social change within communities.
