For refusing to settle 1 Billion Old Leones arrears for bags of flour …

Court action awaits Shadi Basma

Pee Cee and Sons, one of Sierra Leone’s leading indigenous trading companies, has taken legal steps to recover over NLe 1,000,000 (equivalent to one billion old Leones) owed by businessman Shadi Basma for flour supplies made several months ago.

According to management sources at Pee Cee and Sons, the company supplied the flour to Mr. Basma more than eight months ago, but despite repeated reminders and demands for payment, he allegedly failed to honour the agreement. The company was therefore compelled to seek redress through the court to ensure justice and fair settlement of the debt.

Upon learning of the court action, Mr. Basma reportedly proposed a payment plan to clear the outstanding amount, offering to pay NLe 230,000 monthly for four months. He also issued post-dated cheques as part of the arrangement. However, Pee Cee and Sons officials claim that when the payment dates arrived, he repeatedly asked them to “hold on” to the cheques, causing further delays and frustration.

The management further disclosed that despite earlier promises, Mr. Basma has not made any payments for the past eight months, leaving the company with no option but to pursue legal measures to recover the debt.

Pee Cee and Sons emphasized that they are acting within the law to protect their business interests and uphold fairness in trade dealings. The matter is expected to proceed in court as the company seeks a judgment compelling payment of the outstanding sum.
