Thomas Dixon Apologizes to SLCB MD Yusufu Abdul Silla
…For Taking Unauthorized Photo in Court
The Managing Editor of New Age newspaper, Mr. Thomas Dixon, has apologized to the Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB), Mr. Yusuf Abdul Silla, for taking an unauthorized photograph of him during a court proceeding.
The incident occurred during Mr. Sillah’s cross-examination in the ongoing matter between the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank and the New Age Newspaper.
Mr. Dixon, without permission from the court, surreptitiously took a photograph of the SLCB Managing Director while he was in the witness box.
The act was deemed inappropriate and disrespectful to the court’s proceedings, prompting Mr. Silla’s legal representatives to file a motion for contempt and calling on the court to send Thomas Dixon to Prison.
Upon realizing the seriousness of his actions, Mr. Dixon expressed deep regret and tendered an unreserved apology to Mr. Sillah, the court and his legal team for his actions and that of Mohamed K. Fofanah, Managing Editor of the Gleaner Newspaper.
In a remarkable display of humility and forgiveness, Mr. Silla graciously accepted the apology, describing the incident as unfortunate, but emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and professionalism.
Observers noted that his response reflected his integrity and calm disposition as a leader.
Presiding Judge, Justice Adrian Fisher, cautioned Mr. Dixon to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in his work as a journalist.
He further advised Mr. Dixon and his associates to refrain from publishing any material related to the ongoing case, adding that his earlier injunction is to prevent more litigations while the matter is ongoing.
Mr. Dixon thanked Justice Fisher, Mr. Silla, Lawyer Yada Williams and his team for the magnanimity.
