Sierra Leone Police Declare Morlai Sesay Wanted

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have declared Morlai Sesay, a resident of Kissy in the eastern part of Freetown, wanted on allegations of incitement and spreading propaganda against the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government led by President Julius Maada Bio.

According to police sources, Sesay is accused of making statements and circulating messages deemed capable of provoking unrest and undermining public order. However, supporters of Sesay and members of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) have described the move as politically motivated.

Morlai Sesay is a well-known APC supporter and was actively involved in the party’s campaign activities prior to the 2018 general elections. He was frequently seen mobilizing support for the APC’s presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara, both in Freetown and across social media platforms.

Following President Bio’s assumption of office in 2018, several APC supporters reportedly faced intimidation, harassment, and arrests. Human rights observers and opposition figures have claimed that some incidents escalated into violent confrontations, resulting in injuries and even deaths allegedly linked to political rivalries.

The current declaration against Sesay has further fueled tensions between supporters of the ruling SLPP and the opposition APC. Critics argue that the government is using state institutions to silence dissent, while government officials insist that law enforcement is simply acting to preserve national peace and security.

As of the time of reporting, the police have urged members of the public to provide information leading to the arrest of Morlai Sesay. His whereabouts remain unknown.
