Last Saturday, at the celebration of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, Shepherds Hospice Sierra Leone Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Gabriel Madiye, delivered a touching statement expressing the pain behind the abuse of drug affecting the nation.

While delivering a keynote address on the celebration of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day with the theme; Achieving the promise; Gabriel Madiye has said, the rampant use and abuse of drugs is killing our children, killing our jobs, and killing our economy. He said the drug lords are always untouchable, because they control power, money and also command influence. He furthered that the only solution to that is the people. Once the people take the challenge and decide to go against it, Sierra Leone will be a better place for all.

Dilating further, Madiye advanced his argument and advocacy, explaining that the issue of drug epidemic is causing serious disaster to us as a nation
‘‘At our health facility, we always admit patients brought forward with similar issues, and therefore government should put measure in place to control drug abuse. Few days ago, I lost three people to drugs in our community. Four of my staff, who use to work with us here, no longer work here because of drug, he said.

We cannot continue to lose our youths on drugs, he advanced, adding that so many people selling kush have been arrested, but no importer or manufacturer is under arrest for such offence.
The very drugs to control pain is now being abused by people. The very tramadol which we all know is used to cure and manage pain, is now being abused.
This is not just an ordinary day, but a day we must reflect in our community. Drug is killing our children. killing our jobs, killing our economy.
