BBC Media Action Inducts New Interns

Young journalists and university students from various institutions across Sierra Leone have commenced a media internship programme with BBC Media Action, funded by the European Union in Sierra Leone.

The internship will be led by BBC Media Action’s Digital Media Producer, Larry Ronnie Tucker, along with other media professionals, who will join the sessions both online and in person.

Ronnie, during the orientation said “This program is designed to equip you with practical skills in journalism, fact-checking, and ethical reporting.”

Among the selected participants is Sallu Kamuskay, a journalist and the CEO and founder of Salone Messenger. Kamuskay had earlier completed BBC Media Action’s fact-checking training programme, and continues to use his platform to promote accurate and impactful news reporting.

Speaking about the internship, Kamuskay said, “It’s an honour to be part of this programme. It brings together young journalists and students to learn from professionals and improve how we tell the stories of Sierra Leone.”

The internship is part of BBC Media Action’s efforts to support media development in the country by empowering the next generation of journalists and communicators.

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international charity. In a world of disinformation, distrust and division, Media Action shares the BBC’s values, skills and experience to bring people together, and foster greater understanding and trust.
