Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, met with members of the Sierra Leonean diaspora at a stakeholder forum hosted by the Sierra Leone High Commission in London.
The engagement highlighted the SLPP government’s strides in gender equality—with over 30% female representation in Parliament—alongside progress in health, education, and agriculture.
The Vice President shared that Sierra Leone was now exporting sardines and cooking oil, while scaling back food imports through local rice production under the “Feed Salone” initiative.
He also cited improved energy capacity in Freetown, infrastructure expansion, and shared the good news of US Government approval of a $480 million MCC Compact to boost electricity access nationwide.
Dr. Jalloh reaffirmed the critical role of the diaspora in Sierra Leone’s development, especially through remittances supporting education and family welfare.
He encouraged investment in microfinance, health, and education, noting that while concrete incentives for diaspora investors were still under review, the issue remained a government priority.
He also emphasised that his office would always continue to actively support the clearance of donated medical and educational supplies from abroad.
He said he was impressed by participants’ welcoming messages and updates, assuring them that he had also taken note of their calls for clearer strategies to better structure and amplify diaspora contributions in a sustainable way.
