Friends of Transit Organization Supports Aged & Cheshire Home

Members of the ‘Friends of Transit Organization’, on Saturday July 5th 2025, distributed food and non food items worth over seventy million old leones (Le70M) to the Freetown Cheshire Home situated at Race Course Road, Cline Town, and King George Home at Grafton.

Presenting the items, the Chairman, Mustapha Swarray, said the Organization was formed four years ago to support people in need, furthering that they normally organize sponsored walk event every year to raise funds that are then used to give back to society.

“We organize a ‘Sponsored Walk’ event every year from the National Stadium to the Aberdeen beach. We sell tickets to people and the proceeds from that event is used to support vulnerable people. Today we are at the Freetown Cheshire Home and King George Home to support you all,” Mustapha said, amidst thunderous applauds, adding that they are using the resources to support humanity.

At the Freetown Cheshire Home, the Organization donated 2 bags of onions, 2 bags of salt, 5 bags of rice, 2 cartons of sardine, 2 five gallons each of oil and palm oil, 50 bundles of water and a brand new deep freezer.

Receiving the items, the Facility and Operations Manager of the Freetown Cheshire Home, Daniel James, commended members of ‘The Friends of Transit Organization for their timely support.

“This gesture means a lot to us. We have over forty-nine (49) disadvantaged children living in the Home. We have to take care of them daily, in addition to paying the salaries of those taking care of the disadvantaged children. We requested for freezer to preserve our food, but today you have done what we were not expecting,” Mr. James said. He appealed to other humanitarian organizations to follow the footsteps of Friends of Transit Organization.

In her contribution, one of the disabled children, Blessing Kallon, lauded the Organization for the gift, noting that it will go a long way to support them. Blessing Kallon, a Junior Secondary School pupil, called on other humanitarian organizations to come to their aid.

At the King George Home, the Organization donated 7 bags of rice, 3 bags of onions, 1 carton Ovaltine, 2 cartons tomato, 2 cartons sardine, 2 bags of sugar, 1 carton milk, 1 carton Nescafe, 6 boxes of Olinda tea leaf, 5 cups butter, 2 cup mayonnaise, 3 five gallons oil, 2 five gallons palm oil and 50 bundles of water.

Commending the donor, the Bursar of the Home, Roland S. Kanu, lauded ‘The Friends of Transit Organization’ for what he described as timely and massive intervention. He said that they have been praying for such support, adding that their intervention came at the right time. He disclosed that they are presently housing thirty-four (34) old people, and called on other humanitarian organizations to emulate the good work of Transit Organization.

Both Homes disclosed that they have not received any subvention from government from January 2025 to date, noting that they are finding it extremely difficult to cope.
