Sorie Sulaiman Sesay, the leading flagbearer aspirant for the All People’s Congress (APC) ahead of the 2028 elections, continued his nationwide consultations on Saturday, 7th June 2025, with a pivotal visit to Kono District. His stop in Koidu City marked a significant moment in his campaign to galvanize grassroots support ahead of the APC national convention.
A seasoned entrepreneur and former official at the Ministry of Finance, Sesay has earned a reputation for blending economic expertise with grassroots political engagement. His visit to Kono underscored his commitment to building broad-based alliances and reinforcing party unity.
During his engagements in Koidu City, Sesay met with local residents to discuss the APC’s strategic direction, emphasizing the importance of unity and reconciliation. He shared his vision for a more prosperous and inclusive Sierra Leone under APC leadership. Key themes during the dialogue included economic development, youth empowerment, and national healing.
In the evening, Sesay joined APC stakeholders and community leaders for a peace dialogue dinner. The event provided a relaxed and constructive environment for discussions on strengthening party cohesion, addressing internal divisions, and building a peaceful and united front ahead of the 2028 elections
His visit was widely praised as a unifying moment for the people of Kono, a district often seen as a political battleground. Community members expressed optimism about Sesay’s leadership style and his emphasis on inclusion.
Sesay made special commitments to the youths, assuring them of opportunities to participate actively in shaping the future of the party and the country. He emphasized that young people will not be left behind, promising to engage them directly and place them at the forefront of development initiatives. He pledged that youths will be given clear roles and meaningful responsibilities as part of his team.
Sesay also promised targeted support for women and traders, affirming that he has heard their concerns. He committed to providing immediate resources such as chairs, pots, plates, and spoons, which will be delivered to the APC party office in Kono. He called on the people to partner with him in his flagbearer bid, and encouraged them to compile a list of their needs, assuring them of his support.
By 15th June 2025, Sesay pledged to support the registration and verification of all APC members in the district to enable them to become delegates for the upcoming convention. Additionally, he promised to advocate for agricultural support, including engaging with the World Bank to secure grants and other meaningful assistance for farmers and women in the district.
Sesay emphasized that he is not a stranger to the East and has a track record of contributing significantly to the development of Kono. His assurances and practical commitments were warmly received by the community, further positioning him as a frontrunner in the APC flagbearer race.
