Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has expressed the country’s unwavering support for India in its fight against terrorism, and pledged to raise the issue at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
The Vice President made this commitment during a meeting on Friday with Shrikant Shinde, a member of India’s Shiv Sena party, who is leading an Indian Parliamentary delegation on an official visit to Sierra Leone.
“We out rightly condemn terrorism and recognize the devastating impact it has on the security and development of nations,” Vice President Jalloh said.
“Sierra Leone will use our position at the United Nations Security Council, within the African Union, and at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to raise this important issue. Terrorism is not only a challenge for Asia, but also affects our own neighborhood,” he added.
He also promised to convey the delegation’s message to President Julius Maada Bio, who is currently out of the country, but is expected to return soon.
Earlier on Friday, Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, P Alghali, met with the Indian delegation and condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed innocent lives.
“We have a vibrant Indian diaspora in Sierra Leone that has contributed significantly to our economy and the strong relationship we share with India,” said Deputy Minister Alghali.
“We stand with India against terrorism and have expressed our concerns at the Security Council regarding the attack that occurred in April.”
India’s delegation includes Members of Parliament from various parties, including Bansuri Swaraj, Atul Garg, Manan Kumar Mishra, ET Mohammed Basheer, Sasmit Patra, SS Ahluwalia, and former Ambassador Sujan Chinoy. The delegation’s visit aims to engage with international partners, share India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, and build broader support in the fight against cross-border terrorism.
Sierra Leone’s government reaffirmed its commitment to working with India and the international community to combat terrorism, which threatens global peace and security.
