Severe Weather Damages EDSA’s Facility In Freetown

On May 28, 2025, the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) announced a number of communities across the Western Area are currently experiencing intermittent power outages following multiple technical faults in the Freetown Distribution Network.

According to EDSA, the disruptions occurred in the early hours of May 28, as a result of severe weather conditions that caused widespread damage to parts of the network infrastructure.

The Authority’s technical team has since carried out a thorough assessment of the situation, identified key problem areas, and launched repair and maintenance efforts in affected locations.

Communities currently impacted by these outages include Youth Farm, Hastings, Grafton, several areas in Lumley including Kaningo, Babadorie, and Lumley Health Centre, as well as IMATT, Hill Top, Thunder Hill, Calabatown, Goderich, MMCET, and Sussex Village, among others. Parts of Kissy, Wilberforce, the Central Business District (CBD), and key institutions such as SLBC, PCMH, and various government offices have also been affected.

EDSA is urging residents in these areas to remain patient, as crews work to restore power. The Authority also encouraged the public to report any additional outages not listed via the 672 hotline or at nearby substations for prompt attention.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our valued customers, as we work diligently to restore supply and improve service delivery,” the statement concluded.
