United States Boost Sierra Leone Air Force’s Operational Capacity

Freetown —

The United States Embassy has joined forces with the Republic of Sierra Leone Air Force (SLAF) in a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening the SLAF’s operational capabilities and organizational development.

As part of the collaboration, a delegation from the U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa (USAFE-AFAFRICA) visited Sierra Leone for a week-long engagement, offering critical support and expertise in air force development.

The visiting team, comprising subject matter experts from USAFE-AFAFRICA’s Manpower, Organization, and Resources Division, conducted a series of knowledge-sharing sessions focused on enhancing the SLAF within the broader Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) tri-service framework. The partnership seeks to bolster the air force’s capacity to protect national interests through deterrence, territorial defense, and conflict resolution.

Workshops and briefings led by the U.S. team addressed key areas such as manpower planning, career development, strategic forecasting, database management, and air force doctrine. Discussions also explored process optimization and the formulation of effective manning strategies.

Brigadier General David Sahr Ngaujah, Chief of General Staff for the RSLAF, lauded the engagement and expressed keen interest in continued collaboration, particularly in areas of personnel evaluation, assignment systems, and training programs.

The initiative underscores the U.S. Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the professionalization of Sierra Leone’s security forces and enhancing regional stability through enduring military partnerships.
