Did Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah-Stevens Act On ‘Orders From Above’?

On Tuesday 22nd October 2024, Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah-Stevens granted bail to Jihad Basma and two others, who are before the Court on the matter of 264 carat diamond theft.

The release of Jihad Basma and the two others was done in a closed-door court sitting.

A Pro-government Newspaper mentioned that Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah-Stevens JA acted on instructions from higher quarters to restore the rescinded bail of Jihad Basma and two others.

That the initial bail granted on 29th August 2024, was rescinded on 2nd October 2024 by Justice Momoh Jah-Stevens JA.

That on the application for bail by the Lead Counsel, Jessy Munda Jengo, for his client, Justice Momoh Jah-Stevens JA wasted no time to grant or restore the rescinded bail for all the three accused persons.

The Pro-government Newspaper in another publication, roped in President Bio to have meddled in the matter, which was before the Court.

Jihad Basma and two others – Released on Bail

“In his wisdom, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio had appointed a team headed by PC Sheku Tejan Fasuluku from Kono to mediate in the matter between Jihad Basma and Benjamin Marrer. The mediation team is yet to report formerly to the President about the outcome of their endeavor,” the Pro-government Newspaper maintained in an earlier publication.

Questions on the lips of many right-thinking Sierra Leoneans is whether it is really true that Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah-Stevens JA received instructions from above to grant Jihad Basma and others bail?

The above seriously questioned the independence of Sierra Leone’s justice system.
