Unitech University Takes Advantage Of Vulnerable Graduates

An urgent concern has arisen regarding the mistreatment of graduates from Unitech University, formerly known as Iamtech. This issue involves cheating and the extortion of additional money from students, even after they have paid their full fees and other expenses. The university continues to demand money from graduates, despite having settled all necessary payments.

The class of 2023, which graduated in March 2024, has been denied their certificates and degrees. The university is withholding their statements of results, which are crucial for job searches and other opportunities. Despite having completed all financial obligations, graduates are being told to wait an additional six months to receive their certificates or degrees.

Furthermore, Unitech University is now demanding an additional Nle 500 (equivalent to Le 500,000) from graduates before they can collect their certificates or degrees. Some graduates have also requested their statements of results to aid in their job search, but the university continues to refuse to provide these documents.

Unimtech University claims that students must pay Nle500 (equivalent to five hundred thousand old Leones) before receiving their results, despite the fact that graduates have already completed all necessary official payments, expenses, and fees. The university argues that this fee is due to the graduates’ failure to collect their degree or certificate on the graduation day. However, students have reported that during the graduation ceremony, there was a list circulating for graduates to write their names, but most did not do so because of the crowded conditions. Only a small fraction of names were on the list, despite there being over 1,000 graduates.

The ceremony took place on the small Unimtech University campus, which was overcrowded with graduates, invitees, and relatives. This congestion led to a lack of fresh air and space, with some students even facing dangerous conditions. The university’s poor management and planning were the root causes of the issue, and the additional fee imposed on graduates, who have yet to receive their degrees or certificates is seen as an unjust attempt to extract more money from them, especially when they need their degrees to seek employment and other opportunities.

This situation has caused significant frustration among graduates, who have fulfilled all their payment obligations. The university’s ongoing demands for additional payments are seen as an attempt to extort more money from them.

We urge the authorities and management of Unitech University to address this issue promptly. Graduates need their degrees or at least their statements of results to pursue employment and other opportunities. The university should cease its demands for unnecessary fees and resolve this matter swiftly. Further information, including videos and photos, will be shared if the issue remains unresolved.
