Osman Dumbuya Narrowly Escapes Elimination By Colleague Officers
According to reports reaching this medium, one Osman Dumbuya, a police officer, suspected of being a sympathizer of the main opposition party (APC), especially hailing from northern Sierra Leone (a stronghold of the main opposition party, APC), narrowly escaped elimination by loyalists of the rules party over allegations of refusing superior orders during the 10 August 2022 riot that took place in the country.
According to our source, a serving personnel, who spoke to us on basis of anonymity, Osman Dumbuya was an officer of the armed wing of the police, and has been involved in quelling the many riots that had taken place across the country, mainly in opposition party strongholds, and has seen the brutal killing of civilians by his colleagues obeying superior orders, and is said to be against such actions, often raising it up among his peers.
Unfortunately, some of them leaked his stance on their activities to their superiors, and he became a target for elimination. Thus, during the riot, while there was indiscriminate firing of live bullets against Umar demonstrators, he is said to have refused to participate, and was shot at by one of his colleagues, a known ruling party operative, but missed. In the circumstances, Ousman is said to have rushed into a slum area and disappeared among the myriad of zinc houses. Since his disappearance, he has not been seen.
Our Investigation took us to Osman Dumbuya’s residence at Philip Street, Wellington, eastern Freetown, where we engaged family members. His wife, Kadiatu Kanu, explained that on 10th August 2022, Osman left the house for work in the morning and had not returned. She furthered that with the alarming situation of police officers killed during the riot, as well as civilians shot, she and the rest of the family were worried when Osman failed to return. Adding that since a curfew was declared in the afternoon of that same day she was unable to leave the house, but on the following days she had frequented the police division where her husband works, enquiring of his whereabouts, to no avail. She was only confided in by a close friend of her husband that he has fled, after narrowly escaping elimination, but that his whereabouts are unknown.
Osman’s wife, kids and mother are worried about his safety, as some armed security officers had raided their house on several occasions, enquiring about him. They had even threatened them with arrest if they are hiding him and refusing to devulge information of his whereabouts.
As we go to press the whereabouts of Osman Dumbuya are still unknown.
