APC Youth Chairlady Faces Death Threats

Report reaching this medium indicated that the Youth Chairlady of the main opposition APC party, Kumba Princess Kelly is allegedly facing serious death threats from hired thugs of the ruling SLPP party who have bent on in taking her life for embarking on massive campaign against their Presidential Candidate, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio and engaging in verbal attacks of members and supporters of their party.

Since the ruling SLPP party came to power in 2018, attacks, intimidation and killing of members of the main opposition APC party is common in the political dispensation of the country. Many political observers have described as a violations of human rights and a destruction of the political and democratic space in the country.

According to family sources, 34- year- old Kumba Princess Kelly is an ardent member and support of the principles of the main opposition APC party, stating further that, during the 2018 elections campaigning periods, the APC chairlady faces violent attacks from supporters and members of the ruling SLPP party. A family source that preferred anonymity further added by describing Kumba Princess Kelly as a bold, fearless and brave woman that believes in the democratic dispensation of the electoral system by freely articulating or campaigning for her party without subjected to threats or any other means. Therefore, he continued by stating that, Kumba Princess Kelly faces head-on supporters and members of the ruling SLPP party in going into to their main contender stronghold to campaign. As a result of that, many supporters and members of the ruling SLPP party were not pleased, therefore, they started raining physical and verbal attacks on Kumba Princess Kelly.

“But as God could have it, Kumba Princess Kelly fought back but narrowly escaped with the help of some community members that believe in upholding the tenet of democracy in freely holding campaigns,” she claimed, adding that, since then, Kumba has been made a target by members of the ruling SLPP party.

In an exclusive interview with one Tina who identified herself as a sister to Kumba Princess Kelly disclosed that, Kumba started experiencing intimidation which later progressed to threats for participation as party member of the now opposition APC party.

“After the 2018 general elections our party lost the power and there my sister’s troubles began,” she stated, furthering that, Kumba became one of their targets and hired thugs of the SLPP party started hunting to kill her. She further claimed that, it is common for members of the ruling SLPP party to make up false accusations on anyone APC strongman. Tina further disclosed that Kumba participated highly in embarking on electoral education of youth nationwide
“I worked with the locals in the constituency. I was known in my community for championing issues of the APC party, therefore, I became a target for members of the SLPP party and after the elections, I was subjected to many intimidations and death threats but I later escaped from the country for fear of being killed” Kelly’s sister told our reporter.

Meanwhile, family sources alleged that Kumba was raped whilst she was forced to join the Bondo Society also known as FGM. As a lady who is passionate about putting an end to all issues that are affecting women, hence her call for the end to forceful Bondo initiation or FGM in the country.
In response, the national spokesman of the ruling SLPP party, Lahai Lawrence Leeman has declined to comment on our interview but has however on previous interviews on local media described the issue as a political witch-hunt to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of their party that just won the election.
In reaction, the national spokesman of the APC party, Sidi Yayah Tunis called on members of the Diplomatic Community to intervene and end all violence attacks on their members and supporters.
