Ambassador Gembeh delivers Goodwill message on the Commemoration of Commonwealth Day

 

High Commissioner Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Sierra Leone High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, Dr Solomon Christopher Momoh Gembeh SR. has, on the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Education, delivered a goodwill message in honour of the commemoration of the Commonwealth Day in Abuja, Nigeria on Monday 8th, March, 2021. The event took place at the Idris Abukadir Auditorium of the National Universities Commission in Maitama District. This year’s commemoration retains the theme: “Delivering A Common Future, Connecting, Innovating and Transforming”.

In his well-received address, High Commissioner Gembeh affirmed that the theme contained a vision that would create positive impact globally, especially in the context of human capital development of the youthful population, who constitute a larger portion of global population. He stated that commemorating the day should take into account the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic that is ravaging the World and destabilizing the global economy.

High Commissioner Dr. Gembeh extolled the commitment of President Julius Maada Bio towards the empowerment of youths and providing them with educational support in a bid to make them major drivers in democratic governance.

H. E. Dr. Gembeh seized a moment to praise the Commonwealth Nations on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio and the people of Sierra Leone, for promoting democracy, peace and security, prosperity and also combating the challenges of climate change.

The Commonwealth Day is celebrated annually and all 54 sovereign states that are members of the Commonwealth are united by a shared history and culture in order to create a fair equitable society by models of Connecting, Innovating and Transforming for a better future for all.

The commemoration of the Day attracted senior ministers of the

Federal Government of Nigeria, like the Federal Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, members of the Diplomatic Community, especially those from among the 54 states of the Commonwealth, like the United Kingdom, India, Canada, Ghana, Kenya, and Jamaica, who were physically represented by their High Commissioners.

The commemoration of the day was colourful and was climaxed by cultural performances by students from various schools within the Federal Capital of Abuja.
