Reports from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have it that one Alimu Mansaray, has been declared wanted on allegations of incitement and riotous conduct following the August 10 nationwide Protest in the country. During the protest, Alimu Mansaray, a native born and former resident of Yengema Road in Kon, was residing at 6 Wharf Lane Shell Kissy New Road and working for Social Workers Sierra Leone (SWSL), an independent, non-political and a not for -profit organization that strives to improve the lives of vulnerable people and communities in Sierra Leone. TSL underground reporter who got the intelligence from the police filed this report:
Police Officers in Freetown are investigating a case of incitement and riotous conduct involving one Alimu Mansaray, a student of Social Work at Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone (USL). The investigation is not unconnected with the August 10, 11thand 12th unlawful protest that turned bloody due to violence in areas known to be main opposition strongholds in Freetown, Waterloo, Makeni and Kamakwe.
Police sources revealed that Alimu Mansaray was arrested and detained among others during the protest and accused of orchestrating and participating in the nationwide unlawful protest in the country. He was considered a prime suspect behind the August skirmishes and source further disclosed that Alimu Mansaray was fully involved in divulging classified information to one Adebayor, a Sierra Leonean residing in the Netherlands believed to be the main man behind the protest. Adebayor, is a strong critique of government and famous for releasing inciting messages against the government aiming at undermining the peace and stability of the nation.
Despite, the inside sources from the CID, external sources reveals that Alimu Mansaray was a circumstantial victim, who came into police net, while covering the August protest events and documenting the situation for SWSL but ran out of luck when he was mistakenly misconstrued, arrested as one of the protestors and accused of divulging information to Adebayor, who was inciting youths and communities to protest against the state through audio messages.
Through the relentless efforts by SWSL to secure his release, Alimu Mansaray was released by the police after agreeing to a recognizance, which he undertook to appear before the Court when summoned during the ongoing investigation. However, a year after the August protests, the police issued a warrant for his arrest, probably due to his obligation to report when required; as part of the continuing investigation.
During the course of the investigation and in tandem with the issued Warrant of arrest, the police raided the residence of Alimu Mansaray severally to have him rearrested but they could not have him, probably, Alimu Mansaray is on the run for his life because of the fear that justice might not be fairly dispensed on him, if resurfaces in Court. His case highlights the challenges faced by individuals caught in political unrest and underscore the significant impact such actions have on human rights and freedom of expression in the country.
Police spokesperson, Superintendent Brima Kamara said, Alimu Mansaray is among those who have been declared wanted and that the police is in a manhunt to get him alongside
