Africa Global Logistics (AGL) has reinforced itscommitment to community development by awardingscholarships to 51 university students, comprising 25males and 26 females, from the Seaside and Moa Wharfcommunities in Freetown for the 2024/2025 academicyear.
Since the scholarship program’s inception in 2019, a totalof 253 students have benefited, with 133 males and 121females receiving support. This year marks a significantmilestone, as AGL has invested over 1 billion Leones intothe initiative, the highest number of beneficiaries andfunds allocated in a single academic year. The 2024/2025scholarship beneficiaries received a total of NLe 391,089,directly transferred to their respective university accountsto ensure transparency and efficiency.
Adama Njai Year 2 student from the Institute of PublicAdministration and Management (IPAM), University ofSierra Leone, shared her story of overcoming financialchallenges and expressed heartfelt gratitude for thescholarship. She described it as a lifeline for her educationand pledged to use the opportunity wisely to make hercommunity and AGL proud.
Maroun Abi Aad, General Manager of AGL, emphasizedthat the scholarship program is part of the company’sannual corporate social responsibility initiative. Hehighlighted the importance of investing in education as ameans to develop the nation and nurture future leaders.“We are proud of these students and hope to see themshine and contribute positively to society. As long as thecompany operates, this support will continue with approvalfrom our headquarters,” he stated.
Captain Fabjonko Kokan, AGL’s Regional ManagingDirector, congratulated the students and encouraged themto persevere through challenges. He assured them ofAGL’s ongoing support and urged them to seize thisopportunity to secure a brighter future.
Community Gratitude and Appeal, Alhassan Fofanah, aYear 3 Law student from Fourah Bay College and abeneficiary from the Seaside community, expressed deepgratitude on behalf of the scholarship recipients. Heacknowledged AGL’s dedication to the community since2019 and prayed for the continuity of this life-changingprogram.
Lamin Koroma, Chairman of the Seaside Community, alsoextended heartfelt appreciation to AGL for its consistentsupport. He noted the significant impact the scholarshipprogram has had on the community’s educationaldevelopment. Koroma urged the company to considerexpanding its support to include technical and vocationaleducation by establishing a dedicated institute. He alsoappealed for employment opportunities for pastscholarship recipients.
Koroma commended AGL for its professionalism in cargohandling and its dedication to efficient operations, effectiveservice delivery, and excellent customer service. Hepraised the company’s efforts in balancing its businessobjectives with a positive social impact, particularly in theSeaside and Moa Wharf communities.
